This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I'm teaching an 11th-grade class called Looking for an Argument. My students get very hungry and tired by the end of the day and snacks help them power through the last periods of the day. Our lunch starts at 10:50, which is breakfast for many of my students, and they are a bit sluggish by the end of the day. Also, many of them do not like the cafeteria food or are getting support from their teachers or classmates at lunch and do not eat lunch. These snacks will allow them to focus, connect with each other, and do their work.
In my advisory, we will make glitter jars to use as talking pieces and to help students relax.
My students will be leading community-building circles and will use these talking pieces to lead their circles. I made one almost a decade ago and my students love playing with it. It's soothing and hypnotizing. They will love making their own.
