The new books, fidgets, and snacks have transformed our classroom into a place where students feel grounded, supported, and empowered to lead. One of the first ways we used the materials was during a student-led mediation practice circle. As they read through the restorative justice texts, pairs of students highlighted strategies they wanted to try, then used the fidgets to stay calm and focused while they practiced responding to mock conflicts. What stood out most was how seriously they took the work—they were determined to build a space where every voice mattered.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were overjoyed. Several immediately flipped through the books, pointing to concepts they recognized in their own lives. Others carefully opened the boxes of fidgets and explored which ones helped them regulate during tough conversations. And when I put out the snacks, the entire mood shifted—students settled in, relaxed, and began sharing stories about times they had helped friends navigate conflict. These small moments of comfort and care helped create an environment where my students felt both safe and ready to lead.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, your support will continue to fuel our work. Students are now preparing for their first round of real peer mediations, and they're building a shared set of agreements and protocols based on what they've learned from the restorative justice books. They're excited, a little nervous, and incredibly proud. Because of you, they have the resources to strengthen our school community and to practice the kind of leadership that prioritizes healing, understanding, and compassion. Thank you for believing in them—and in the powerful role young people can play when they are trusted to lead.","fullyFundedDate":1757450410757,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-school-wide-peer-mediation-an/9687548/","projectTitle":"Building a School-Wide Peer Mediation and Rj Program","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. Your support made a huge difference for our players, many of whom had been playing in cleats that were worn out or didn't even fit properly. When the new cleats arrived, the excitement was immediate. Players were trying them on right away, comparing sizes, and talking about how much better they felt just walking onto the field. It was more than just new gear — it gave them a sense of pride and confidence that showed in the way they practiced and competed.\r\n\r\nNow that everyone has proper footwear, the energy at practices and games has completely changed. The players move with more comfort, focus, and confidence, and that has helped us build stronger chemistry as a team. Many of my students are international and had never played football before, so this project has opened a whole new world for them. From the first day they saw the new equipment, the excitement was real, students were picking up footballs, asking questions, and laughing as they tried to figure out how to throw and catch for the first time. We have been using the materials during our physical education lessons to teach teamwork, communication, and movement skills, and it has been amazing to watch their confidence grow each week. One moment that stood out was when a student who had never touched a football before threw a perfect spiral and the whole class started cheering.\r\n\r\nNow that the students are more comfortable with the basics, our next step is to build on what they have learned by introducing small-sided games that focus on strategy and collaboration. They are starting to connect physical activity with leadership, problem solving, and community, which is exactly what I hoped this project would inspire. Your support has turned what could have been a regular PE unit into something memorable and empowering for students who are experiencing the sport, and this country, in a new way. Thank you for giving them that opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1758899114349,"projectUrl":"project/touchdown-learning-a-football-unit-for/9579856/","projectTitle":"Touchdown Learning: A Football Unit for 400 Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Musa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10171324_orig.jpg?crop=719,719,x282,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758908735785","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10171324"},{"teacherId":2919815,"projectId":8863100,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support and kindness!\r\n IT really means the world to me and my students to know that people who are not in our classroom are INTERESTED in what we do. We were able to create 12 fidget kits for all our guidance staff, and each team received a box full of fidgets. These fidgets help students stay present and engaged while listening to their peers and teachers during discussions.\r\n\r\nStudents' eyes lit up when they saw the boxes of fidgets—many of them immediately asked if they could keep them! They often stop by my office to borrow fidgets for the day. To ensure they remain available for everyone, we've developed a system for students to check them out for the day or a class period. This helps us keep them in good condition so they can be used again and again.\r\n\r\nIn our Peer Leaders Club, students have been brainstorming ways to improve our advisory program and build a stronger sense of community both within advisories and across the school.
