This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love inspiring my students to be all that they can be. My students are 6th graders that live in (or around) East Saint Paul, Minnesota. They love to take in all of the knowledge that they can in my classroom. My goal is to provide students with opportunities to grow academically and socially in the classroom.
After returning to in-person learning, I have been searching for materials to help build community in the classroom.
Games, books, and stem materials have been useful tools when creating community-building activities for my students. Students in my classroom also have benefited from colorful learning tools that bring the Math concepts we are learning to life.
My students come every day ready to learn. They are innovative, curious, and love to use technology to expand their learning.
My Project
These card games will be used by students in my classroom during community building time. I teach three different classes, two math classes, and one foundations (advisory) class. I have chosen games that can be used in each of these classes. I am looking to provide more opportunities for students to come together and bring joy to the classroom.
My goal is to bring joy back to learning as students return, in-person, to the classroom!
Through these hard times, students have not been able to build community at lunch, during passing time, or in any other traditional school activities that have been impacted by COVID-19 protocols. With an abundance of card games, students will be able to social distance, while also participating in an activity together that does not involve technology!
I have asked for cards games that students can use during class time to grow their math skills while also providing time for emotional learning. I am excited for my students to have more options and opportunities to be in a joyful community together.
