This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a truly diverse population in a truly integrated school where just over half are low-income and just under half are middle-income. Students who are Native American, African American, Latino, Asian American, and European American make up our population, as well as students who were born abroad or with parents who are immigrants from such diverse homelands as Japan, China, Laos, Nepal, India, Yemen, Palestine, Egypt, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.

Despite the differences between students and cultures, they come together under the values of courage, compassion, curiosity, integrity, respect, and responsibility to push for the self-success and community success with the motto "Leave no dragon behind!"

My Project

Several students are excited to practice capoeira in my student club next year. As our gym space is crowded, we will be needing to practice outside and will need mats to do so. The mats will make it possible to train in an area covered by wood chips and sand. Also, we will need the kick pads to practice our kick speed and power. Lastly, we will need bamboo sticks to practice the stick dance art from Brazil that is called maculele. With all these supplies, my students will be set for success.
