Help me give my students snacks, fidget toys, and books in Spanish and English to start up a Multi-lingual book club!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Amanda's classroom raised $902

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would like to start a Bilingual Book Club to bring together Newcomer students and non-Newcomer students. All students will be able to have their own copies of the books (in English or Spanish) to take home and read. We will select books such as, "Voces Sin Fronteras: Our Stories, Our Truth" and, "Fantasmas (Ghosts)" that deal with universal middle school themes. We will use the books as entry points into facilitated conversations about deeper topics, such as friendship, dating, race and discrimination, immigration and acculturation stories, gender identity, social justice, and more.
I'm excited to bring this to my students as another way to engage across differences in language and culture and explore themes and topics that connect us all.
We will create a community by reading and discussing universal themes facing middle schoolers.
At the end of the semester, students will have built relationships with other students who are not from the same background as them and will have improved their literacy and language skills in English and/or Spanish. We will have created a space on campus to have deeper conversations about topics and themes that students are curious about and experiencing. Reluctant readers will be sparked by the graphic novel format to be more excited about literacy.
Snacks will be provided to students who participate (and used as an incentive for attendance!).
I am very excited to bring my own love of graphic novels to this space!
