Building Community in Middle School

Help me give my students (middle schoolers) a large classroom rug—a shared space where we can gather, collaborate, and build a stronger sense of community.

My Project

This project will help us add a large, comfortable rug to our classroom—a simple but powerful addition that will create a warm and flexible space for learning, connection, and collaboration.

Right now, our classroom lacks a shared area where students can gather for group discussions, read independently, or simply take a break from their desks.

A classroom rug will serve as a central space for morning meetings, peer collaboration, project work, and even mindfulness activities.

Having a rug allows students to sit in a more relaxed and inclusive setting, encouraging conversation, creativity, and connection—especially important during the middle school years when social development is key.
