This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are diverse in many aspects, and they enjoy learning in our International Baccalaureate school. They are special because they drive instruction with their thought-provoking questions. They are active leaders and members of our classroom communities.
One of my goals is for them to thrive as much as they can while in first grade so that their thirst for knowledge continues year after year.
This will foster a sense of global citizenship and internal motivation to learn that is simply unmatched!
Our students realize that they live in a diverse community where students go through many different life experiences. Learning about responsibilities and animal welfare, and having other difficult conversations helps our students realize the importance of education and better understand the world around them.
Overall, they are such awesome, globally responsive children and amazing learners within the great city of Chicago!
My Project
We will need financial literacy materials, such as books, games, and geometric shape materials to create our communities.
Students will be learning about sharing, spending and saving money and will organize themselves in groups of 4, building financially stable communities through using geometric shapes.
They will have a sharing community, a saving community and a spending community.
They will organize and build through discussion and rich conversation about these topics. The end goal is for students to read about financial literacy then, work in a hands-on way to build financial communities using the tools we receive from DonorsChoose. Students will get smart about financial literacy while using their math knowledge to build and explore the needs of communities.
