Building Classroom Community One Breath at a Time

I need tuition for Breathe for Change's 200-hour yoga training which will certify me to teach yoga to my students and be a B4C Wellness Champion at my school.

My Students

Each fall 30+ students enter my second-grade classroom in our urban, neighborhood school. They enter with a wide-variety of academic and social-emotional needs and goals. These needs can not be addressed and these goals can not be met in isolation from one another.

To achieve academically, my students and I must work together to create a classroom community that supports each one of its learners and their social-emotional needs.

My second-graders are eager to learn and demonstrate how they can care for themselves, support each other and make a difference in our community.

My Project

My students' need tools to manage their emotions, to connect with their peers in meaningful ways and to solve problems peacefully. Breathe for Change is an organization that provides professional development curriculum for teachers that integrates social-emotional learning, meditation, yoga and community-building activities which can then be brought back to my classroom.

I am looking forward to learning how to use yoga practices to support and empower my students to reach their full potential in their academic lives, peer relationships, our school community and beyond.

Another powerful aspect of this professional development is community of educators it strives to support. By becoming part of a larger community of educators who can share ideas and strategies, we all will serve are students better as they grow and change.
