This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Describing my students is an easy task. They are driven children who defy the odds, are motivated, enthusiastic and work together as a community. This is the third year I will be teaching with my students in Springfield, MA an urban city that faces many different challenges, like poverty, gang violence, the opiod epidemic and families facing housing insecurity. Despite all of the challenges my students face everyday, they come to school, ready to learn, ready to grow, ready to take on the future with academics and success in mind.

My Project

Alternative seating is necessary for many student who struggle with sitting still. While creative a positive classroom atmosphere will help students feel comfortable and more likely to move out of their comfort zone. That is why I would like different lights, wall art, and a plant. I am asking for notebooks to do a poetry unit we do every year, this is a way to really engage the students and get them really involved in their learning. I would also like to start a library in my classroom, starting with a few books and book shelf. This would let students to check out books and take on a new love for reading!
