My Project

If you've ever worked with a gifted individual, you know that their brains operate in fascinating ways! Last year, I had the opportunity to work with a gifted student who just couldn't be enticed by the same learning opportunities as his other gifted peers. It was so important to me that he was engaged in stimulating and enriching learning opportunities that would help him grow, but nothing I offered seemed to grab his attention!

After a couple of weeks of having one project idea after another brushed aside by this student, I was about to admit defeat!

He just wasn't interested in anything besides us leaving him alone so he could play games on his computer, but that's not really my teaching style. In a last ditch effort to discover something he was interested in and hadn't shared with me yet, we finally had a breakthrough. This student was wild about...Legos!

I quickly drummed some up from our school science closet and found a page of Lego design challenges. In no time at all, this student was approaching me multiple times a day to dive into an enriching and engaging design challenge. Who knew Legos were the answer to some of life's most challenging problems?!

I now see the importance of keeping my own stash of Legos on hand for all of my learners, not just the gifted ones. However, teacher budgets are limited and Legos can be costly! I would be so appreciative of your support in building a classroom Lego supply to ensure that I am prepared to garner the interest and meet the needs of ALL of my incredible students.
