it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a vibrant group, many of whom are new to the country and learning English. They are curious, eager to learn, and incredibly resilient as they navigate this exciting new chapter of their lives. One thing that truly excites me is how engaged they become when they are able to read in their native language. The books I am requesting will provide them with an opportunity to continue building literacy skills in Spanish, which is crucial for their academic development. Research shows that maintaining and strengthening literacy in their first language helps students succeed in learning a second language.
These Spanish-language picture books will allow my students to deepen their comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and foster a love for reading while they develop their English skills.
They will be able to independently choose books that interest them, which will help them engage with reading on a deeper level. My goal is to create a classroom that is both print-rich and culturally affirming, where students feel empowered in their language journey.
What makes my students special is their resilience and their eagerness to learn, even when faced with challenges. They are so excited to discover new stories and are always hungry for knowledge. By donating to this project, you will be helping my students continue to develop as confident bilingual readers and learners, setting them up for success in both their native language and English.
