My students are interested in learning about so many topics and learn best in many ways. They come from diverse backgrounds, and this enriches our classroom environment. Our school strives to offer students a rich learning experiences and to support the whole child. We would really appreciate support in gathering materials to enhance learning experiences in STEM.
These materials will supply the students in my class with hands-on building materials.
I'm requesting glue, LEGOs, and craft sticks.
These materials will be used to complete STEM based problems or challenging tasks for students.
This will help students build problem solving skills and grow their knowledge of how the world works and science. By building, they are also able to relate to how building and structures are created in the real world: they will be able to compare how different materials may have different strengths and weaknesses that need to be considered when building.
The ability to use materials hands-on will allow for deeper understanding of the topic we are working on. For example, my students will use the different materials (Popsicle sticks, Legos, and twigs.) to build bridges. They will then test to see which bridge can hold the most weight. They can compare and discuss which building materials were best and why they think they worked the best. They will build bridges that will need to hold cars. Again, they will compare which building material worked the best and why they think it did. Building will be the main idea of all the materials.
