Building Brains and Calming Trauma With Classroom Supplies at Home
Help me give my students multi-purpose brain-building supplies that, due to poverty, they don't have in their homes. I selected boxes for organization and tools for learning that they could use in various ways.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Our school has loaned out school laptops, as most families didn't own one, but the lack of internet access is a huge barrier to my students accessing the many online opportunities.
In addition, extended family units in our school area have had to move in together because of lost jobs.
This means there are now a lot of people in one dwelling vying for computer time and bandwidth.
To counter this obstacle, we teachers have provided materials in paper form to try to keep our students learning.
My greatest desires are to keep their love of learning active, to provide them with brain-building and social/emotional enriching activities, and to help them and their families stay safe.
Thank you for this opportunity to help my students.
My Project
You will see I haven't asked for anything fancy. In fact much of what I asked for are items many houses simply have available for the children to use. That is not the case for all of my students. Having basic craft/drawing/making/creating supplies will help my students keep up on those small motor skills, necessary for development and these supplies will help them process their new, and scary, reality by facilitating ways for them to just be kids. Their social/emotional needs are concerning to me always, but especially now.
I chose items that could be long-lasting and added a deck of cards (with fun happy faces) so they could play with their families and continue to play the math games we played in class, where most of them experienced a deck of cards for the first time.
There are a lot of needs right now. I just thank you for considering the group of kids I call Burt's Bibliophiles.
