My Project
High School students with disabilities at my school are resilient and strong but need a stronger love of reading to become productive citizens.
Unfortunately, reading is a great barrier for many students with IEPs, and budgets are limited in our city charter school.
I want to provide every child with their own library, however, I can only start small by providing new, engaging books that I can personally give to students to help share my love of reading and foster their own positive feelings about reading through a lens like their own in novels and in historical nonfiction about their roots and experiences.
For my students, I want to give them every possible opportunity for growth, and building literacy is a huge first step toward increasing literacy throughout our school.
