Building Blocks For Student Engineers!

My students need engineering and creative building materials like Magna-Tiles and Brain Flakes. They also need containers to keep these materials organized and sorted.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners who attend a Title I public elementary school in Northern California. They are funny and unique individuals who bring different strengths and life experiences to our classroom. They come from various socioeconomic backgrounds and speak a variety of languages.

My first graders are creative, empathetic, and curious students.

These students make each other laugh on a daily basis. They find joy in working together, project based learning, and helping one another as learners and friends. They are enthusiastic about school and support one another in their interests.

My Project

As a teacher, I always hope for my students to become stronger readers, writers and mathematicians. However, it's just as important to teach them the joy that comes with creating and building. This project is meant to motivate my first graders to think of themselves as engineers, feeding their curiosity and excitement for experimenting with different materials and building things.

These Magna-Tiles and Brain Flakes will help my first graders become more confident builders and creative artists.

I want them to experience how valuable and fun this type of hands-on learning and exploring can be. My hope is that these materials will be used to help kids plan, problem solve and help each other in their efforts to turn their ideas into creations.

I plan for these materials to help my students gain more of an understanding, appreciation and thrill for science and engineering. They will do this while working in partnerships, groups, and independently, and they will be able to practice cooperation and communication throughout this process.
