Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting materials that will help to build the pre-academic skills that my students will need when they enter their K5 year and the years beyond. Pre-kindergarten is filled with academic, gross motor, fine motor, and social skills. I have a play-based classroom where the pre-academic skills are interwoven with hands-on activities that promote the foundational skills my students will need for their future learning endeavors.

The building blocks in Pre-K are both literal and figurative in nature!

I have requested extra large hollow building blocks that have ramps and rectangular and square shapes for building big structures. Many times, we have the children use materials that are not as big as their imaginations. These blocks will help to match the picture in the children's minds with their actual constructions.

I am also asking for a couple of beanbag chairs. When we have independent reading time, we do not have as many beanbag chairs and wobbly bucket chairs as we have children. Having more beanbags will give more children the opportunity to sit in a more relaxing space. Our independent reading time is one of our special times of the day when the children can relax either by themselves or with a friend and enjoy a variety of books.

The materials included in this project also include math and alphabet manipulatives that the children can use to help learn upper and lowercase letters and improve their counting and patterning skills.
