Building Better Readers

Help me give my students the tools necessary to help them build their reading skills. I have requested leveled readers, read aloud books, reading and writing activity books, and ink to print colorful vocabulary pictures and publish writing.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a school which has 94% of students on free or reduced-price lunch. We have many apartment homes zoned to our school, so many of the students at the school have attended two or more schools in their elementary years.

My students are excited and motivated to come to school each day to learn and help each other meet goals.

The class is a Dual Language class where English Language Learners and English Speakers are taught in English and Spanish. School is the best place for my students to practice their reading and speaking skills.

My Project

I selected books to add to our classroom library ensuring that the students have a wide variety of titles on their reading level. I have also purchased books for our read aloud. Printer Ink to print some of our new vocabulary words. I have ordered lap desks so the students can work on writing at a different location in the room. I also selected some activity books that will provide my students with some engaging/independent activities to work on reading and writing.

I want to provide my students with many opportunities to read, write, and work on comprehension.

I feel that providing them with a print rich environment will help give them opportunities to read and make them want to read more thereby improving their reading.
