The school has a high population of students who receive free/reduced lunch. Many of the students live in apartments that are near the school and quite a few have attended more than 2 schools by 3rd grade. I want to give them a good foundation in reading. Half of the class is performing below grade level and the more opportunities they have to read should help them WANT to read. Our goal this year is to have all students to read on grade level by grade 3. The more resources and opportunities the students have to read, the more they will want to read.
