My students need four ethnic baby dolls with a set clothes, bottles, and blankets, a set of multi-ethnic people that can be posed and played with, and a full set of dollhouse furniture pieces.
I teach in a Title I school with a large population of Hispanic students. 100% of my students receive free lunches and come from low-income families. My students are eager to learn and explore their world. They come from diverse backgrounds but mostly come from low income families
Many of my students come to me with little to no English.
They are experiencing learning in a public setting for the first time and sometimes come to class without the skills needed for academic success. Since many of my students do not speak English, they need to build up their communication skills and their vocabulary. My students also are building other skills needed for their success in my classroom and beyond.
My Project
My classroom is in need of replacing missing or broken items within our dramatic play area and dollhouse. One item would be a full set of dollhouse furniture pieces to be placed in our dollhouse. Our dollhouse now only has a few people and a few pieces of furniture. Many pieces had to be thrown away cause they were broken or missing parts. Students learn best through play.
My students pretend to be their moms and dads within our dramatic play area.
Another item needed for my students to help them pretend and play are four ethnic baby dolls. The babies will help my students learn to care for others. In our dramatic play area, we have no dolls to go with our high chair or baby bed. The baby clothes, blankets, and bottles will also help my students to extend their learning with these dolls.
Dramatic play helps my students learn about the world around them. They learn to be better citizens as well. Other skills my students learn are compassion, empathy, and caring for others. The ethnic selection of dolls and people will help my students relate to a doll that looks most like themselves. The Pose and Play family set includes several families of different ethnic groups. My students will relate to the family that best represents their family.
