Our school district is in a small, rural community in northern Idaho. Basketball is a major sport in our community, and we are working hard to build solid programs in elementary, middle, and high school.
Our community is amazing, and it truly takes a village to help give our students the opportunities they need.
These athletes are dedicated to their sport, but also shine in the classroom and community. We are so blessed to coach them, and we look forward to building this program for years to come.
Unfortunately, funding is tight and we rely on a levy to support our sports programs. The basketball budget is quite small, and most things we purchase come through fundraising and from the help of our booster club.
My Project
My husband and I are both teachers and multi-sport coaches in our community. We try to do all we can to support our student-athletes, and we absolutely love spending almost four months of the year coaching and mentoring the high school JV and Varsity girls' basketball teams.
The high school basketball budget is very small, so anything we want outside of basketballs and scorebooks basically comes from other sources.
The girls work hard at our summer basketball camp, and we use that money for team camp, HUDL, and this year's lodging for a holiday tournament. Finances are tight, but we'd love to be able to get the team ankle braces for injuries and a Slipp-Nott shoe grip sticky traction board for a Christmas tournament that is 9 hours away from our hometown.
