My students are some of the sweetest, hardest working children you will ever meet. Despite the many obstacles life has thrown their way, they show up excited and eager to learn each day. They're ready to give their best, and I meet them head-on with challenges to help them grow and develop into exceptional students, friends, and leaders!
My students need materials that meet their wide range of developmental abilities.
Our school is a Title I school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. An entire wing of our school is dedicated to Pre-k to fifth-grade children with various special needs. I have the joy of teaching our Pre-k to 2nd-grade students with intellectual disabilities. These present themselves in many ways. I am so appreciative of the many generous DonorsChoose.org supporters who help me bring exciting new materials into my classroom for my children!
My students love our afternoon math time. We practice whole group skills, then break out into small groups and centers. Shapes, colors, numbers, counting and spatial concepts are all foundational skills my students need to practice each day.
All of my students are working toward unique goals as they build their math skills.
We will use the hundreds pocket chart every day as we practice counting. My children will practice color matching and recognition (as well as fine motor development, hurray!) with the mosaic peg board sets. The pattern blocks and boards will give us practice with shapes and patterns. Working with the position word activity set will help my students understand spatial concepts. The wood blocks puzzle board set will give my students hands-on practice with numbers and shapes as they practice stacking and counting the different pieces. They will also match colors, shapes and practice number recognition with the matching egg set.
