Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are part of the preschool for all learners program. They exhibit a variety of needs from mild to moderate. My school is a Title I school that serves students who come from low-income families and all qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. My students range in abilities and needs of support. My students require hands-on materials to keep them to engage and be motivated to learn. It has been challenging financially to provide these materials to all of my students. Due to the age and needs of my students, I rely on my families to help me with engaging my students during distance learning. I have attempted to use household items during my activities so that families do not need to go out to find materials. Through DonorsChoose, I hope to deliver supplies and materials that families most likely do not have around the house.
My Project
My students would benefit from the Play-doh fundamentals box because it provides the basic materials needed to foster creativity and support their fine motor skills. The Play-doh fundamental box will also support students' pretend play skills by allowing them to create a variety of shapes that they can represent as food. It is important for my students to have these tools available at home to continue developing important skills.
The First Builders Mega Blocks set will also create opportunities for students to use their imagination.
The mega blocks will foster creativity by allowing my students to build a variety of structures that they observe around them. It will also create opportunities for students to practice play skills and turn taking skills with the support of parents.
The materials that I have chosen are important for my students because it fosters creativity and imagination. These materials will help them keep developing and practicing important skills at home.
