My students are preschoolers who attend a NC public school located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In this unique school, the staff teach and support young children with special needs in an inclusive learning environment. As a Licensed, 5-Star Developmental Day Program, children are served in a smaller class size setting to better meet their multiple physical and learning needs. The school enrolls up to 125 children from 3 years old to 11 years old. About 25% of the students do not have special needs, so children with and without disabilities play and learn side-by-side. The school primarily serves preschool children, but it also has a typical kindergarten class and two elementary classes for students with significant disabilities. Students are taught and cared for by a highly qualified and specialized team of teachers, therapists, and a school nurse that are dedicated to helping children meet their maximum learning potential.
My Project
How do you build an educational foundation: with blocks, of course! Research shows that young children learn best through play, and my students need blocks for their block center!
Just think about the opportunities students will have to stretch their imaginations and learn to work cooperatively with their peers as they build with blocks!
That's not the only benefit to playing with blocks. Block play also supports children's physical/motor development, problem-solving skills, and math and science concepts.
Your donation will provide 3 types of blocks that will enable my students to explore and create as they build the foundation of their future education!
