Building an Authentic and Diverse Classroom Library
Help me give my students access to books that represent them and those around us. We want to diversify our classroom library and provide windows and mirrors to all our students that they can connect with!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The goal in building a classroom library which is authentic and diverse is to allow students the opportunity to see themselves reflected in the books. We want students to have as many windows and mirrors in the classroom to connect with (Bishop, 1990). Our students need to be validated and affirmed that their cultures and languages are appreciated and an asset in our classrooms. Our students come to us with diverse and valuable experiences and we want them to know how important they are and how much we love them. As of now, there isn't much representation of our students of diverse backgrounds in our classroom libraries. Of published children's books in 2021, only 7% are Latinx, 14% are Black/African, 2% are Indigenous, 11% are Asian and 1% are Arab. Our students need more representation and to inspire them, we must give them the opportunity to connect to books and to their learning. Please help us fund our project and impact our students' lives in a beautiful and positive way. Thank you!
