Building an AP Program Part 11 Lab Supplies Investigation 12

Help me give my students the opportunity to research animal behavior and see how certain animals respond to stimuli. This is a required lab for AP Biology. It really helps students understand ecological concepts.

My Project

My school is starting its second year of an AP Biology Program. The first year, students worked very diligently to adapt to the level of instruction and the speed at which concepts are taught. We did not realize the cost of the College Board required labs and were unable to purchase and complete them. We did some at home cookbook labs and watched the videos of other students completing the labs but as you can imagine, it was not the same.

We are trying so hard to offer students the opportunities, courses and rigor that other students have in nearby affluent counties.

Purchasing the complete set of the "Dirty Dozen" labs will greatly change the experience these students have in AP Biology. This particular lab is number 12/13. The investigation focuses on animal behavior. The students get to see how animals respond to stimuli using a choice chamber. They can collect and observe data and see the patterns in the animal behavior as it starts to emerge. This is what I call a springboard lab. It shows students general behavior patterns but really encourages to make inferences and test further ideas. I love seeing where their brains take them as they have new scientific experiences.
