Today's students are the leaders of tomorrow. To best support the growth and experiences of my students we could use some support materials. Building a library that includes life skills resources such as interviewing skills, daily living skills, money management, and job aptitudes will help assist in the learning of the basic life skills that students will need to be more confident when they go out on their own. Games can be a fun way to learn new skills and provide opportunities to work on different life lessons. In these games, students will work with real-world math and budgeting while competing with their peers in a positive manner.
Through this project, students will be exposed to real-life work scenarios in the form of student-led business projects.
Students will go through the steps of running a coffee cart. Through these business skills, they will be able to build their ability to communicate along with workplace skills such as working as a group, basic mathematical skills, organization, time management, and being able to follow directions.
Today many of our students are unsure of how to be productive adults and often lack basic skills that will help them thrive. They need support from those who have walked the path of adulthood and model the skills that they will need to be a thriving adult. Through the creation of resumes to the skills needed to prepare a meal, we accomplish all of this in our semester-long course in Transition from School to Work program. Students leave us having the tools to accomplish adult tasks such as knowing how to interview and what is needed, how to care for themselves, an idea of the expenses, along having an idea of what they would like to pursue as a career.
