This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to explore and learn. In addition to building strong readers, I want to build excited readers who look forward to diving into the pages of a new book or text.

To help encourage my students to read, it's important to have rich fiction and nonfiction texts for them to explore.

Scholastic News is an engaging, age appropriate source of information related to reading, math, science, social studies, and current events. We will use the articles in the issues for whole group lessons, small group/center activities, and just for fun! The SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Reader's Award) books were specifically selected for students in grades 3-5, and provide an assortment of diverse characters and stories. Our school media center has a limited number of copies of each book, so having a set in my classroom will help enable my students to read the books. In addition, having some more bins to help organize and store the books in my classroom library will make it easier for students to find a book that interests them.

Having engaging texts at their fingertips will help my students grow into excited readers!
