My Project

Students will us the highlighters in a couple of different ways.

1.

They will us them as art of a Close Reding procedure that includes:

a. Prereading topic sentences only

b, Making a prediction on the author's claim or thesis to guide reading

c. Reading the entirety of the test and highlighting any phrases that support the claim

d. Deciding if the highlighted material merits you changing or adjusting what you believe to be the author's claim

e. Annotating, adding comment sin the margin, for all annotated text (i.e., further examples of what is highlighted)

2. Highlighting phrases in a document that can then be used to integrate information into writing (i.e., essay, lab report) or into speaking such as in a scored class discussion

3. Utilize different colors of highlighter to identify information that is on the pro side of an argument or in the con side of an argument

I will be sharing these highlighters with two other teachers. We each have bet4een 140 and 180 students per semester. A small number of students have their own highlighters.
