My Project
My academy students are a small group who have been placed outside the regular classroom due to behavioral challenges, such as fighting. Many struggle with emotional regulation and decision-making. Touching Spirit Bear is a powerful novel about accountability, personal growth, and second chances—important lessons for my students.
With 15 copies of this book, my students will engage in a shared reading experience that encourages discussion about choices, consequences, and empathy.
Through guided reading and activities, they will connect the story’s themes to their own lives, helping them reflect on their actions and develop social-emotional skills.
My goal is to create a safe space where students can explore personal growth through literature. This book study will improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking while inspiring them to make positive changes.
What makes my students special is their resilience. Despite their struggles, they have the potential to grow when given the right support. Many have never seen themselves reflected in a book before, and Touching Spirit Bear offers them a story that resonates with their experiences. With your help, I can provide them with a meaningful reading experience that fosters learning and self-improvement.
