My Students

As I start my 39th year teaching in the public school classroom, I am so thankful. My school, while built in the early 70s, is framed by two lovely state parks. On the way to work each day, I see sunrises over the mountain and a variety of wildlife.

My students are just as sweet and talented as the surroundings are beautiful and it is my desire to help develop and perfect that talent.

Like most middle school students, our students yearn to be a part of a group, and being a part of a musical ensemble fulfills that need of belonging and acceptance.

My Project

Last year, with the help of DonorsChoose.org, my first-year choral students were able to attend the 2016 Carowinds Festival of Music. They performed two pieces of music and received the highest rating of Superior from all three adjudicators.

The pride and sense of accomplishment they received from that single performance has been motivation for them to work even harder on more challenging pieces of music this year.

Returning singers, from the beginning of the year, have requested to go back and represent our school yet again. Of course, I wish to support their goals and last fall paid festival registration to reserve them a performance spot this spring. While many of our children cannot afford the trip, I have out that when the desire is there, a way follows.

My prayer is to provide my students with the opportunity to perfect their music making skills and bring back another superior rating for our school. I am also praying that with the generosity of the DonorsChoose.org community, that EVERY ONE of my students will be able to participate in this festival of music. Thank you for your consideration and care for my students.
