This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Starting a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class from scratch is both exciting and a little overwhelming — especially when it comes to building a classroom library. Right now, I don’t have any board books for my students, and I’m hoping to change that with your help! TK students are just beginning their educational journey.

They are full of curiosity and wonder, and board books are the perfect entry point for developing early literacy skills, vocabulary, and a love of reading.

These books are made for little hands, with sturdy pages and engaging content that invites repeated readings.

I’m requesting a collection of high-quality, developmentally appropriate board books that cover a range of themes including feelings, animals, manners, counting, transportation, and beloved characters like the Pigeon, Eric Carle, and Dr. Seuss. These titles will not only help my students build early literacy skills but will also support their social-emotional learning and concept development.

Many of my TK students are experiencing a school environment for the very first time. Having access to engaging, age-appropriate books will support their development in literacy, language, math, and social skills. With your support, we can build a classroom library that will foster a love of reading and learning from day one.

These books will be used during circle time, independent reading, small group instruction, and quiet moments throughout the day. Most importantly, they will create joyful experiences and lasting memories around books.
