Building a Thinking Math Classroom!

Help me give my students a math classroom designed for them to engage deeply with our content and develop the new skills required in the modern world to be successful mathematical thinkers.

My Project

In math class, students do their best work standing, working with their peers, on a non-permanent surface (like a white board, or chart paper when there aren't enough white board spaces) where they can try things out, engage with each other's thinking, and make their thinking visible to each others and themselves.

These supplies will help us engage in this kind of learning.

White board markers and erasers are essential, chart paper also helps me and my students create anchor charts with key ideas on them, as well as craft important visuals to accompany concepts throughout the year. Students will also be able to work in individual notebooks they keep throughout the year, as a place to jot down notes or write through their thought process.

All of these supplies will aid in creating the kind of math classroom described in the book "Building Thinking Classrooms", which revolutionized the way many teachers think about math education. I have found great success with these pedagogical practices in the past, and would like to engage full throttle this year with my students!
