Building a Thinking and Collaborative Classroom

My Project

After attending several conferences and workshops relating to math, I am going to try to implement a "Building Thinking Classrooms" classroom, which requires a lot more whiteboard space than I currently have available in my classroom. Building Thinking Classrooms also involves getting the students talking to each other more and being more explanatory in their work flow. The idea is that students will remember things more if they are standing up and talking to each other, rather than sitting down and just copying notes and examples from the board.

Instead of just sitting and taking notes, they are shown an example and then randomly grouped to work on similar problems together on their own whiteboard space.

The space should be large enough that no one's ideas have to be erased from the space unless all parties involved agree that the work isn't what is needed to solve the problem. It also needs to be large enough that students can have the space needed to work on complex problems and problems that push their understanding of each concept.
