Being happy and comfortable at school is a vital part of student learning. I want my students to be exposed to a learning environment that is welcoming, engaging, and relaxing. I want to provide my students with more opportunities to use technology in the classroom. This would be a great way for to my students to make connections with a student-centered classroom, spark their interest, and help them develop as learners and problem solvers of the future.
I have twenty-eight students who love to learn.
They embrace opportunities to work together and engage in rich conversations about their work. My students enjoy collaborating and working on the computer whenever possible. They also enjoy researching information and working on group projects together to support one another in their learning.
Teaching at a Title I school in an urban area, with over sixty-three percent of the families being low-income, our school has been drastically underfunded and our resources for technology and other resources are very limited. The administration and teacher leadership do their best to find ways to support students with technology resources and materials, but it's not enough to support our students' technology needs.
Chromebooks provide students with a way to learn and communicate using 21st century tools. Collaboration is one of the most important contemporary skills that we can teach students. Providing my students with opportunities to work with partners or in small groups, students can use the Chromebook to complete their learning or create a project. This will allow me to provide models and expectations to help my students be successful as they collaborate with tools.
The requested Chromebooks will allow my students to collaborate face-to-face or on the computer while working on projects.
They can use productivity tools on the web that allow them to access their work anytime and anywhere. They can access Google Apps for Education and also work in the cloud using Chromebooks. Chromebooks will also allow them to access Google documents that I create so they can write personal narratives, fiction stories, and paragraphs.
Students can use a variety of websites for digital storytelling. Digital storytelling allows the students to “show what they know” in a creative, digital format. Digital storytelling on the web also allows for publication and sharing of projects with a wider audience. Students can use digital storytelling to support a variety of subjects. Allowing students to explore apps and make their own choices with their learning will provide them with greater learning opportunities.
