Building a Successful Phonics Kit: Part 2!

My Project

Phonics and phonemic awareness are the first components to the Science of Reading Approach. When scholars improve their ability to grasp the concept of how to decode words, they show improvement and gains across all content areas.

The materials for this project will be used to build phonics kits that would meet the needs of the scholars in my classroom.

The photo boxes will be used to organize the phonics materials. Students will use the highlighters to high important words that follow a certain phonics pattern. This year is my first year teaching 5th grade after teaching 3rd grade for 7yrs. One thing I noticed is that I have several scholars who are struggling with phonics and phonemic awareness skills. Reading improvement impacts all content areas. I want to be able to take activities I have learned from West Virginia Phonics, Reading Street RTI, and Phonics First training to create a phonics kit for scholars to use during small groups.
