This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a new 5th grade teacher setting up a classroom for the first time, I am excited to create an engaging and well-structured learning environment that helps students thrive both academically and organizationally. My goal is to provide my students with the hands-on tools they need to succeed in math, along with the basic organizational materials that will help our classroom run smoothly and efficiently from day one.
In math, many students benefit greatly from using manipulatives to help visualize and deepen their understanding of key concepts such as place value, fractions, decimals, and geometry.
With the right tools, abstract ideas become tangible and accessible. Manipulatives like fraction tiles, place value blocks, and geometric shapes will provide my students with the hands-on experiences they need to develop strong number sense and problem-solving skills.
Alongside math tools, I am requesting folders and labels to support classroom organization. Each student will receive their own folder to manage work, notes, and assignments. Clear labeling of materials and classroom areas will help establish routines and promote independence—important skills as students prepare for middle school.
These supplies will not only support academic success, but also help me create a welcoming, well-managed space where students feel confident and ready to learn each day. With your support, this brand-new classroom will be stocked and ready to empower a room full of eager 5th grade learners.
