My Project

Our school is located in a small, rural Kansas town. I teach fourth grade math and reading to my homeroom students. And then, I have the honor of teaching science to all of the fourth graders in our building - approximately 60 students!

These curious fourth graders come into my classroom full of questions - wanting to explore and problem solve.

The goal of STEAM is to get students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics at a young age and introduce them to scientific concepts. My hope is that the fourth graders will connect with - maybe even develop a passion for - an idea or subject!

Picture books are a great way to introduce my students to the world! Some of the books below are about famous scientists. Maybe a little girl will be inspired to study insects. Some of the books are about common objects (crayons) and making them better (unbreakable crayons). And others dive deep into concepts that are new and exciting, like bridges and architecture!

This collection of books will help me bring science to life in my classroom, and then springboard us into many hands-on activities!
