My Project

As a Reggio-inspired pre-k program, time in nature has always been a top priority. We had no idea that in 2020, spending time in nature would be a matter of survival and we would bring our entire learning environment outdoors. Now that we are two years into a global pandemic and no longer in crisis mode, our outdoor classroom is no longer a mitigation strategy, but rather an opportunity to reimagine the possibilities.

Our new goal is creating a deeper dialogue with the children in relation to nature.

We want our pre-k students to actively and comfortably explore all aspects of nature, no matter the weather. Rainy days are an especially amazing learning experience - from exploring cause and effect by jumping into puddles, to making hypotheses about why all the worms have come up, to gaining a better understanding of volume by collecting rainwater in different vessels!

Unfortunately, not every family has the resources to provide their children with quality rain gear which limits their access to connecting with nature. By creating a class library of Muddy Buddy waterproof suits, all of our students will be able to represent in natural spaces all year round, to make their presence visible, and to allow the outdoor classroom to represent inclusion and solidarity through interconnectedness of humans and nature!
