Building a More Diverse Library

My Students

Our students come from diverse populations. Many are from broken homes, some are English Language Learners and a few are Children in Transit... but all of them are loved and valued at our elementary school! We are a Title One school, focused on not just educating our students to achieve high goals but helping them meet their social and emotional needs as well.

We need more diverse library books to meet our diverse population: Children need to be able to see themselves and their experiences in books!

I am looking to increase of who was series, pictures books with children of all colors and races and award winning novels.

My Project

Times are a changing and we need our library to change with it! Students need to know all are welcome and encouraged to read stories with characters who look like them and have some of their same experiences.

Our library books need to be mirrors of our student population and windows to other cultures, races and creeds.

I have been working on adding more diverse title over the past 2 years but am limited by budget to add everything I would like. Funding this project will help us to reach our goal!
