My Project

Earlier in the school year, some of my middle school students approached me about sponsoring a Chess Club. Our school had a chess club in years past, but had been without for quite some time. I agreed to try to start a chess club. We were loaned a few used but decent chess sets, along with some mix-and-match spare parts from other sets. As the chess club has grown, we have a need for more chess sets. That's a great problem to have!

The students are really wanting to have an end-of-year chess tournament.

For that, we need more chess sets and some chess timers to help track the time left for each student's move in the tournament.

This chess club may seem like no big deal to some people. For these students, the chess club offers intellectual stimulation and an alternative to having their noses stuck in a digital device. Please consider helping my students put down their cell phone and really use their brains as they interact with another person.
