This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of low income second graders living in the lower part of Manhattan in New York City. My students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our classroom is an Integrated Co-Teaching Classroom (ICT) where students with disabilities receive integrated co-teaching services and are educated with age appropriate peers in the general education classroom. ICT provides access to the general education curriculum and specially designed instruction to meet students’ individual needs. My students are caring, energetic and have a thirst for knowledge.
My Project
Round 2! Not all of my books were in the first project!
Our amazing students are eager readers who are ready to develop a real love of reading yet we lack a developed and diverse library of age appropriate books!
Second grade is a pertinent year for learning to read and we strive to create a community of readers and critical thinkers. We are looking to stock our library with books that celebrate the diversity of our classroom. We want our students to be able to open books and see themselves in the pages with characters that look like them and live lives similar to theirs in order to help "hook" them and turn them into lifelong readers.
