Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.
My students love technology and being creative.
However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.
My Project
My students are exploring all aspects of STEM careers and skills. A part of learning these concepts includes working in small groups to collaborate on projects that require following directions and organization. The kits requested in this project will be highly engaging for my students. They will create an opportunity for students to work together to create functional models that they will enjoy building, while they will also be developing the STEM foundation that are needed to get to higher levels of learning.
These kits will provide choice, well written directions and will help students to build self confidence when completing them.
