This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are proving the possible! Our school prides itself on helping students show growth. Everyone starts with a different set of skills, but they all have the ability to keep growing. I love working with students and families who embrace this mindset of continual learning.
My students deserve the best.
They work hard to improve every day. I hope that they leave my classroom with a commitment to their own excellence and enthusiasm to use their skills to serve others.
My Project
I have always loved reading contemporary books. Even when the books is fictional, it taps into the world that we are currently experiencing.
I'm asking you to help me fill my room with books written by and prominently featuring non-white characters.
First of all, these books are all engaging, heart-wrenching, and wonderfully written. Second, their covers and their characters loudly proclaim to my students, "Your stories matter. You are seen. You are valued. You are worth it. Your stories deserve to be celebrated and shared."
I have seen time and time again that students who say they do not love reading can be drawn in by an intriguing cover and a unique blurb. I have chosen these books with a keen awareness of the students that I will serve in my classroom.
With your donation, you will be helping me build a lifelong love of reading.
