Building a Future: Training the Architects of Tomorrow
My students need 45 t-squares and 50 triangles.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Larkin's classroom raised $284

My students will build the future, if you will give them the tools they need to be the architects of tomorrow.
In my high-poverty school, we've made Architecture our 6th grade theme. This gives them a chance to engage in meaningful, hands-on activities across the curriculum, while they get a glimpse of the promise of an exciting career. But they need the right tools for the job!
My students need 45 t-squares and 2 sets of 25 set-squares, or Alvin Triangles. In the past, I have had groups of students, sharing a single t-square, erect 3' tall scale replicas of the Tower of Babel, Ziggurat of Ur, Ishtar Gate, and other Mesopotamian monuments. But a full class sharing one t-square slowed our progress to a crawl. This year, with tools for everyone, my students can roll up their sleeves and really immerse themselves in recreating some of the world's greatest monuments. Using their ELA and social studies skills to research non-fiction sources and their math and science skills to measure and calculate scales and force, my students can call upon all of their major subject areas to help them build something that, like the original monuments, can stand forever.
But they need your help. Your generosity can make it possible for me to get their noses out of the textbooks and to the grindstone. With these tools in their hands, there is no limit to what they can build. Give them the chance to build something meaningful, to see how what they learn in school has real value outside the classroom. Won't you please help me to expose them to how what they learn now can be the foundation for a career of creativity?
