Our students attend a Title I elementary school in California with 95% of them receiving free and reduced lunch and breakfast.
Although students at my school often come from challenging circumstances, they come to school just like any child: happy to see friends and teachers, eager to do meaningful activities and projects, and willing to be an important part of the classroom community.
Our highly transient student population consists of foster youth, homeless, single parent families, and many second language learners. Our teachers strive to provide a safe environment for students to learn and reach their full potential.
My Project
This Math Fluency Kit will help students develop a better understanding of the key number relationships: benchmarks of 5 and 10, spatial relationships (having a number that goes with a quantity), one or two more/less, and part-part whole. A solid understanding of these relationships is essential for students to develop number sense and fluency with addition and subtraction.
The materials and strategies provided in the kit are evidence based strategies that help students develop number sense.
The hands-on manipulatives and colorful visuals help support student learning and mathematical conversations. The teacher's guide provides 180 days of instruction and guidance to support the teacher in providing opportunities for reasoning about the relationships in numbers and making connections in mathematics.
