In our classroom, books are more than just tools for learning—they are windows, mirrors, and doors. They help children see the world, see themselves, and imagine new possibilities. That’s why I am asking for your support in creating a classroom library that truly reflects the rich diversity of my students and the world around them.
I teach in a Title I school where many students rarely see themselves in the pages of the books they read.
For children of color, immigrant families, and other underrepresented groups, representation is not just empowering—it’s essential. I am requesting donations for two things that will make a lasting impact: diverse books that celebrate a wide range of cultures, identities, and experiences, and bookshelves to display them proudly and accessibly.
Your donation will help us bring in books written by authors of color, stories that uplift marginalized voices, and texts that promote understanding, empathy, and equity. From picture books to chapter books, our goal is to build a collection where every child can find themselves and learn about others. The bookshelves will make this library inviting and organized, encouraging students to explore and read independently.
This is a literacy project rooted in racial and social justice. Every story matters—and with your help, every child in my class will feel that their story matters too.
