Building a Diverse Library for Preschoolers

Help me give my students a more diverse library with these books that showcase stories from people of color and different backgrounds and will help start the discussion in our classroom about social justice and being open to all people.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Maeve's classroom raised $402

My Students

The students in my classroom come from all backgrounds and learning abilities. My students are a mix of students that learn in a typical way and students with higher needs including physical disabilities and children with autism. My students are all very busy and love to learn through traditional methods but also learn through sensory experiences. Our classroom is very hands-on, and I love to give my students the opportunity to learn in the way they prefer and what engages them with each activity introduced.

Each day my students come to school enthusiastic and ready to learn and grow together.

The main focus in the classroom is relationship building and creating a supportive community for all children and their families. My classroom is the foundation and usually, the first experience children have in school so we create a safe and supportive environment that is fun and full of learning.

My Project

These books will be added to our classroom library and can be taken home when we are doing remote learning. The books tell stories about children of different races, abilities, and gender identities. This selection of books is a good starting point for my classroom to continue to grow and be inclusive to all children no matter their ability, race, or how they identify. I want my classroom to be a safe haven for all children and having books that represent the diverse children I teach will help to continue this goal.
