This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A diverse classroom library, rich with books penned by authors from various ethnic backgrounds, is a powerful tool for enhancing student learning. Firstly, it fosters inclusivity and representation, promoting a sense of belonging among students of different ethnicities. Secondly, it encourages empathy and a broader perspective, helping students understand the world through different cultural lenses. Lastly, it enables us to achieve three specific goals in our Ethnic Studies course. By exploring literature that reflects their own backgrounds, students can connect deeply with the material, making it more relatable and engaging. We can use these diverse books to analyze literature, exploring various points of view, and delving into characterization. For instance, utilizing "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia allows us to dissect the cultural influences on storytelling, perspective, and character development.

Diverse books offer students the chance to see themselves in literature, validating their identities and making them feel seen and special.

This boosts confidence and encourages active participation in discussions. Incorporating these diverse voices into our classroom library will not only benefit our Ethnic Studies course but also empower our students to become more informed, empathetic, and culturally literate individuals.
