Building a Diverse Classroom Library in a Title I School

My Project

I'm at a Title I school where our students have some catching up to do when it comes to reading. Having a library that includes contemporary books from diverse voices along with the classics helps me pull in reluctant readers.

Graphic novels are especially helpful for this, but any time one of my kids can read a book where the main character looks like them they are more likely to get excited about reading.

We have 10 minutes of independent reading per class and one of my favorite things to keep track of is when a student who struggled to read finds something they love and they want to come tell me all about it. That's a good day.
