Building a Diverse and Inclusive School!

Help me give my students poster board, art supplies, beads, and cord to facilitate their diversity project!

My Project

Our Diversity Club is a space for 6th-8th grade students with diverse personal identities and backgrounds. Each Wednesday we meet to support each other, do enrichment activities related to diversity and plan and execute projects that combat bullying and promote acceptance and awareness in our school community. We hope to execute a visibility campaign in May to raise awareness of our student body’s different identities. As our Diversity Club student members say, “Awareness is important for community building because it allows individuals to receive equitable treatment, spreads empathy for diverse experiences and backgrounds, and allows the community to deepen its own knowledge about itself.”

Students will use the listed supplies to make bracelets and posters that celebrate the diversity of our school.

The bracelets will be beaded with different flag colors, representing the many remarkable places and spaces our students come from. The posters, which are hand designed by students, will contain anti-bullying messages and will go up around the school. We hope that by creating visual reminders of our diversity, our project will help to promote community acceptance and signal support and goodwill between fellow students.
